Body Positivism
Everyone has one. A body. Most bodies have all the usual parts, and once you’ve seen the bits that are typically kept under wraps, it’s no big deal. Sometimes a body won’t have all the usual parts; some bodies might be ‘missing’ a breast or a limb or a penis. Some might even have extra of any of these. Or skin that is more like a painted abstract canvas than a blank one. Bodies, frankly, are always odd, which by extension of a thought makes them all oddly beautiful. In other words, the details of the body that carries you around aren’t all that important. It’s that you put forward the part of you that is represented by your smile and countenance instead. It’s that you feel there might just be an ineffable connection with your fellow members of humanity that you are free to not cover up that body in shame, or fear, or embarrassment.
Now, you may indeed have a body that people look at in awe because of its proportions or whatever. Your body is not special here. It’s just another body.
You may have a body that is, factually-speaking, one of a number of adjectives you may insert here: ______.
Know that your body is not going to be singled out as that. Your smile and countenance are going to be what is noticed.
The closest metaphor I have is that you can check your physical form at the door of Lake O’ The Woods, and be among others who have done the same. An opportunity to practice being your truest self, without the burden of the protective armor that is clothing. Something worth trying out? you get to choose.
