Membership LOWC welcomes new membership to families and individuals, who share our common values, participate in nude recreation and who want to be active members of a co-operative community. We work together, have fun together and support each other. What are our shared values? LOWC is a nudist club. We understand that it makes sense to be clothed when prudent. When it is cold or when we have inclement weather, we usually wear clothing. Nudity is required in the pool, hot-tub and lake. We want LOWC to survive in perpetuity as a nudist community. LOWC is family-oriented and all members are expected to help us maintain an appropriate atmosphere. LOWC is member-owned and maintains reasonable fees by sharing work. Member participation is expected in the maintenance and operations of LOWC as well as in social activities. Our strength and foundation is in the belief that every member and the grounds are important and deserve to be treated with respect. We take pride in keeping the grounds, club house and facilities clean and well maintained. LOWC welcomes new members and visitors who share our interests and values. When can I apply for membership? Membership applications are accepted at any time. You should not apply until you have experienced nude recreation with others and are fully comfortable that you want to participate in a cooperative family oriented nudist community. What is the process to apply for membership? Contact the membership committee by e-mail at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it or by phone at (219) 241-0739. They will arrange for an interview at a mutually convenient time. The purpose of the interview is for both parties to understand what membership in LOWC means and to establish that there is a good fit and commitment to being part of the community. After the successful completion of the interview, an application must be submitted with payment of a non-refundable $65.00 application fee. A background check may be completed. The membership committee will bring the application to the next Board meeting. The applicant may attend the Board meeting where the application is discussed, but is not required to. The new family or member will then become a member of our club when approved by the Board. Any inappropriate behavior will result in loss of membership. What does a family membership mean? A Family consists of a single or couple with children under 18. They must have custody or appropriate permission to bring their minor children to LOWC. Minor grandchildren of members may also be included in LOWC activities with their grandparents provided that appropriate permission from their parents is on file. Couples without children can also apply for family membership. Both partners will have full access to LOWC. Single Moms and Dads with minor children can also apply for family membership. They can bring a significant other with them to LOWC without paying grounds fees. Single Moms and Dads must register their partner each time they come to LOWC. Minor children (if any) must be accompanied by at least one adult member. The yearly membership fees are the same for families and single members. Can unmarried couples apply for a single membership? Single individuals who have a membership without a partner may bring a significant other to LOWC without payment of grounds fees. There is no residency requirement for bringing a partner. They must register, which is free. As a member, can I bring a friend with me to the club? You can bring a friend to the club anytime. If you have a home or a trailer site on the grounds, you can bring your friend there without paying a grounds fee, provided that they do not leave your site during the visit. No registration is required unless they come out to your site on a repeated basis. In that case, they need to fill out a onetime non-paying form that is available in the club house. If they wish to have access to the grounds and facilities, they must register and pay a grounds fee. What is involved in registering a partner or guest? The guest must present a valid Driver’s License or other identification to the Gatekeeper during the season. The Gatekeeper will print a visitor ticket which the guest must sign. Any grounds fees that are due must be paid at that time. The guest’s personal information will be kept strictly confidential and will never be used to contact the guest. LOWC requires the ticket so we know who is on the grounds in case of an emergency. A signature is required to acknowledge the information is correct and for the legal disclaimer. During the off-season, there is a form to fill out and sign for non-paying guests or partners. This form only has to be submitted once. I am shy? Will I have a problem becoming part of the community? The membership committee and many of the members are committed to welcoming new members and helping them get integrated into the community. Helping in an activity going on is also a good way to get know people and quickly feel like part of the community. There are often easy ways to help. For example, after club dinners, there is usually a group washing dishes and they can always use extra help. What payments are required in the year I join? The $65 application fee is required at time of application. Pro-rated dues are then required from date of membership to the end of the calendar year. Full dues will be billed in the following year. After I join, when can I use the facilities? Any time, 365 days a year. You will have access to the grounds and facilities and be given information about its use, club rules, etc. You can ask about rules at the informational interview. The information says that member participation is expected. What does that mean? There is an all club work weekend scheduled in the spring and one in the fall. At that time many jobs are completed to help get the property ready for the season and to winterize the property. If you are interested in the club and not yet a member, you are welcome to join work weekend. Admission is free for those that pitch in and help. That is an excellent time to learn about working together and meet people. Members are expected to participate in work weekend if they are able to, and are requested to make a contribution if they are unable to participate. The work of the club is primarily done by volunteers working through committees and the Board. Each member is encouraged to join at least one committee. Social events are usually put on by members or small groups of members working together. There are wide range of talents in the membership and a wide range of tasks. Members can choose to volunteer for tasks that fit with their talents and interests. Most members enjoy working on club projects with others. Members meet once a year at the annual meeting, and they are welcome to listen to the discussion at most parts of Board meetings, which meet the second Saturday of the month. The exact dates are posted in the club house. Major decisions are usually made only after member discussion and input. Some co-op clubs maintain a quota and expect a defined number of hours per year of work. There is no specified quota at LOWC. I am a member of another nudist club and moving to the area? Can my membership be transferred? No. We would be delighted to talk with you and if LOWC is a good fit, start your application process immediately. However, we are unable to transfer memberships as we are independently owned by our own members. If you choose to visit, grounds fees are reduced for AANR and TNS members. I am a member and have a friend I would like encourage to join LOWC. What should I do? Bring them out and introduce them to some other members. If they like it and are interested in participating, contact the membership committee. We want to encourage members to introduce their friends.
